Mot Mot Lodge - Tobago

If you ever need to make a grand getaway to Tobago with at least 10 of your best friends and you need to find the most awesome place to stay, you need to go to the Mot Mot Lodge. This gem is nestled away in a dirt track off Arnos Vale Road, Plymouth.

We were in complete amazement of this house as soon as we arrived. The manager, Carlton was very friendly and accommodating. The house sits alone alongside a cliff on the northern side of Tobago. There is an infinity pool accompanied with a balcony and Patio area. The balcony area can be made to open out from the living room to get the true rustic experience of a cabin in the middle of nowhere. The beautiful sunrises in this lodge can only be surpassed by the breath-taking sunsets that can be collected from the cliffside.

The Lodge comes complete with a fully operational kitchen and all required appliances and cutlery to suit your needs. There’s one master bedroom with a Jacuzzi bathtub, three additional bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large living room with pool table and a laundry room. The place comes with six beds and an air mattress for additional persons. The place has a max accommodation of 12 persons, so get your 11 friends ready and get the info for this location here. There's also information attached on my blog to get further acquainted with this lovely destination right here. One of my very talented friends, Josh Brizan took the following photos of this lodge.

If you’re feeling adventurous, there’s a track where you can travel down the cliffside to where the rocky base meets the ocean. We made the trip and its moderately easy, you just need to be careful on the rocks.

It’s truly an enjoyable stay, I encourage you to spend a weekend here at least (though a weekend is too short).

Tell me, are there any hidden gems like this elsewhere in your country? I would like to visit and have my personal experience there.

If you want to stay here, you can find the info here

Club Sahara - Tobago

One night in Tobago, My friend and I were looking for nightclub. As the natural place to visit is the popular club Shade. However this night was extremely dead for this club. I remember a friend told me that there's a new club open on Shirvan road.

On our way along Shirvan road, my friend Ambika and I found this club named Sahara. Need I say it was one of the best nights in Tobago. The club was very lively and the crowd enjoyed it thoroughly.

Stay at Kariwak Holistic Haven

One of the best hotels in my opinion is the Kariwak Holistic Haven nestled in Crown Point, Tobago. This hotel has some of the most accommodating staff and naturalistic feel. As soon as you enter the driveway you leave your stress and worries at the door. The straw like huts and traditional cabins give you the feel that you have entered a small village. Furthermore, the staff tell you that as soon as you enter underneath the Kariwak sign, you're considered family.

The layout of the Hotel has a side dedicated to family and another for couples only. The amenities are quite amazing. There's a restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is included, however lunch and dinner is available at a cost. There's a Gazebo in which Yoga or Tai Chi is offered every morning at 8:00am all you need to walk with is comfortable clothing, everything else will be provided. A masseuse is available daily from 10:30am that offers an hour long relaxing massage. There is a pool as well as a waterfall Jacuzzi, however, please be aware that the Jacuzzi is not a hot water one as they were informed that cold water is more therapeutic than warm water. Try not to go bathing at 12am. There's a hammock area in which several hammocks are available to relax in the garden area. There is also a myriad of flora and native fauna that can be identified as you travel from the restaurant, to the pool, Jacuzzi or even the restaurant.

PS. Be careful with your sugar and bananas during breakfast as you may be visited by some birds that may relieve you of them.

The hotel is purely holistic in every way, such examples are:
  • All the food provided in the restaurant is produced, organically in the hotel or at privately owned farms.
  • All the water provided in the hotel is ozonated (such as taps, showers, pools and jacuzzi)
  • To be energy efficient and conservative, the hotel will not wash towels until its placed on the floor and the sprinkler system to water the foliage utilizes recycled water from the taps.
The bar and wait staff are very accommodating and you can get some of the most interesting drinks in the bar. You must have a Kariwak Rum Punch, it is guaranteed to give you a kick and make sure you're very relaxed for your trip.

If you're ever in Tobago and in need of a relaxing, village like experience, Look no further, visit Kariwak and unwind.

Argyle Falls

One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Trinidad and Tobago is Argyle Falls, nestled into the southern portion of the main ridge of Tobago. This waterfall can be located in the city of Roxborough close to the Fire Station. We were a bit lost but the gatekeeper, Mr. Rogers was quite helpful in directing us to the entrance. You need to enter the Fire Sation compound and veer further north to a teal building on a separate compound. There is a small entry fee of TT$50.00 for locals and TT$60 for foreigners. If needed, for an additional cost a tour guide can be hired for a two hour long trip to the waterfall.

The trail to Argyle falls is a fairly easy trek along a grassy and rocky path for approximately 10 minutes. During this walk make sure to listen to the sounds of the forest, the birds, the air as it passes through the bamboo and you may even hear or see other forms of wildlife during this trip.

Upon arrival to the base of the falls we were greeted by the amazing view of this massive waterfall crashing into this majestic pool. For the adventurous ones, there's a trail with a rope to the right hand side that carries you to higher up the waterfall. We did not feel the need to take that trip up and decided too take in the view. on the left hand side, there's a small mound that I capitalized upon to jump into a deep portion of the water.

The water isn't the clearest in the deep however as you reach to the more shallow end and stay still, you will be greeted by several fresh water fishes that may even take a small nibble on your feet.

All in all, its a marvelous waterfall that should be visited if you're ever in Tobago just for the view and the thunderous sound of the crashing water. It is truly one of the many gems in Tobago.

Bucco Reef and Nylon Pool Tours

As my friend and I arrived at Store Bay to have lunch, we discussed how long it has been since we visited Bucco Reef and Nylon Pool. We arrived at the conclusion that it has been quite a while and we needed to revisit. It was an act of serendipity that a gentleman who goes by the name of Linx (not the card service) approached us and asked if we wanted beach chairs.

We informed him that we were not so interested in the chairs however we wanted to visit the reef. He responded immediately that he can arrange for us. In addition to this he also decided to throw in two beach chairs free of charge while we wait for the glass bottom boat to arrive.

While eating, he found us and provided us with the tickets for the sailing aboard "Cool Runnings" and told us where to locate him when we were ready of the lounge chairs. We changed to our swim wear and went to relax till it would be time for our sailing.

Soon enough, Cool Runnings approached from the distance and docked at the bay. We began to board this vessel and get acquainted with our Captain Sharkie. Before the sailing, he and is Co-Captain made sure to carry out maritime regulations and safety procedures that I have not experienced before on a Glass Bottom Tour. It was very professional of him and his crew and I applaud them for their dedication for safety.

Aside from the safety briefing, the fun began, this boat is one of the few if not the only one that carries light refreshments, music and entertainment. Sharkie provided his passengers with a myriad of entertainment with his personality, jokes, musical variety and his dance moves.

Upon our arrival to Bucco Reef he invited everyone to the lower level to gaze upon the beauty of the reef that protects a portion of the western coast of Tobago. To our surprise we were also greeted by some of the dwellers in the reef, namely sharkies friend "Freddie" came up to the glass for a photo opportunity.

Sharkie then carried the tour to a location called "Shark City" where the group were invited to take a swim in the ocean where sharks are to be seen. Unfortunately, the only shark found in the water for this tour was our captain, nevertheless, a few eels and parrot fish were found close to the coral formations. Our tour then took us to the key destination, Nylon Pool. Nylon pool is a wonder in which a shallow sandy bar that exists out in the ocean. It has been legend that the sand here makes you 10 years younger when you rub the magical sand. (NB: there is no theory that proves or disproves this. Take it as you may).

Before our return to Store bay, were were carried to "No Mans Land" another interesting location in which a small sandy archipelago of Tobago appears and disappears based on the tide. In addition on our return trip also included a short tour of the mangrove and some picturesque scenes along the coast of Tobago.

I would recommend this tour for anyone who has never been and for those that want to have an amazing experience, ask for Cool Running with Captain Sharkie.

How have your experiences in Tobago been? Also I would like you guys to check this Blog - Tobago Traveller out. He Will give you guys a lot of more information of activities within Tobago.

Store Bay Local Cuisine

Many a person would have visited this beach for the lively experience and breathtaking views of sunsets and the landing airplanes. My friend and I just arrived to our sister isle, Tobago around noon and we were famished to say the least. We drove to Store Bay to have a meal from one of the five local food sheds present.

To our unfortunate surprise two out of the five were closed so our choices were limited. Nevertheless, our choice was beyond exceptional. We decided upon Miss Joycies Local Cuisine where my companion had some stew chicken and dumplings with lentil peas. I wanted to have some lambi (Conch) but to my dismay, i was too late and all was finished. I was also apprehensive about being on a glass-bottom boat after having such a heavy meal and opted for some french fries. However upon seeing the stew chicken and the peas, I had to change my order. It was so inviting and I was very fortunate that Tessa and Bridget were very accommodating and allowed me to change my order and even enticed me into having some curry goat instead of the chicken. I finally chose upon the stew chicken with lentil peas and provision (Sweet potatoes and Dasheen).

The food was amazing and to die for. Kudos to these two amazing persons that were so kind and great to converse with. I will definitely be patronizing this establishment in the near future.

If you ever find yourself in Store Bay, I would recommend you try Miss Joycies for their exceptional customer service and amazing food, but please come early so you can try the lambi.
